Long Creek Golf & Country Creek
Lying in a very scenic and densely wooded coulee about four kilometers east of
Avonlea, this 18 hole course has been extremely popular since it opened in the late 1980s. It
was originally a 9 hole course, but when golfers flocked to the course from all over
(including the United States) a need to expand quickly developed. In 1992 the Bill Newis
designed front 9 was complemented by a back 9 from the creative minds at John F. Robinson and
Associates. Both 9s make excellent use of the natural undulations and water hazards of the
existing terrain. Most fairways are narrow and neatly defined by dense bush. Long Creek winds
through the course and comes into play on almost every hole on the back 9. The front 9 also
has an abundance of water. The combined effect of the water and the thick bush forces most
golfers to gingerly pick their way around the course. The greens at Long Creek have become
well known for being generous in size, but with many subtle complexities. A 10,000 square foot
clubhouse opened in the spring of 1997. The 2 1/2 story building offers a spectacular view of
the course and surrounding countryside.
