Harbor Golf Club and Resort
On the banks of Lake Diefenbaker, the Harbor Golf Club and Resort is a very popular
golf course near the town of Elbow. Its 18 holes sit on the bluffs over-looking the lake and a
150 ship harbor. On top of these bluffs the terrain is relatively open. However, these
lakeside hills are punctuated by thickly treed coulees and ravines which affect play on
several holes. Because of a prevailing breeze off the lake (which has a habit of curtailing
the distance obtained on too many drives) the course will sometimes seem to play as long as
Lake Diefenbaker’Äôs 500 mile shoreline. These winds tend to affect play mostly on the back 9,
especially on holes 14 through 16. Most memorable of these is the par four 16th. From the back
tee you must drive 165 yards over a ravine to find the safety of the fairway. If you fail to
judge the wind correctly, don’Äôt be surprised to find yourself chalking up a penalty
stroke.
