Somerhill Golf Club
Once an apple orchard, the Somerhill Golf Club has retained much of its pastoral
heritage and provides golfers with a tranquil and serene setting in which to enjoy their
sport. Sightings of deer and fox are common on the course and bird lovers can usually spot
many species during their rounds. The land at Somerhill ranges from rolling to hilly and some
of the original apple trees still grace this picturesque course. A gently flowing creek winds
its way through the course, affecting play on several holes, perhaps most dramatically on the
8th hole where it crosses the fairway no less than three times. Widely regarded as the most
difficult hole in Bruce County, the 3rd hole is a 489 yard par five that requires precision
shot making to achieve par. Try to place your tee shot on the left side, just beyond the
valley that lies about 175 yards out on this dogleg right. This will set up your second shot,
which will be a lay-up in front of the creek which flows in front of the green. Try to keep
your third shot left to avoid trouble with the willows on the right side. From there its an
airborne approach to the green. This hole is good enough to challenge the
masters.
