Since taking over the Omineca Golf and Country Club in 1979 owner Norm Avison has done much to upgrade the facility. His program of continual improvement has included new tees, new greens, new hazards and the creation of 9 additional holes.
Avison's toil and vision has trans-formed Omineca into a fine 18 hole golf course that has become popular with many of the area's most avid golfers. Its two 9s are a study in contrasting playing styles and golfers have to adjust their games to enjoy a good score.
The front 9 is a tight playing, heavily treed affair with hilly fairways and large, undulating greens. Shot accuracy is important and players must exercise smart course management to survive intact.
The back 9 is much more free ranging and forgiving, and it is here that golfers can afford to take a few more chances with their shots. Golfers should not, however, throw caution completely to the wind as they will find enough sand and natural water hazards in play on the back to keep them honest.
