Virden Well View Golf Club
Manitoba golf was born in Virden in 1892. As the first golf course in the province,
Virden Well View Golf Club is classically designed with wide fairways and deep, windswept
grassy roughs. In 1995 the Club undertook a long-term rebuilding plan which to date has seen
four new greens and eleven new tee boxes added. The long-range plan is to have all greens
replaced and a practice area incorporated into the layout. The ’Äúnew’Äù layout (in the spring of
1999) opens with two relatively easy par fours playing at 283 and 340 yards respectively.
Birdies need to be made early as a creek winding through the property comes into play on six
of the last seven holes. The 7th might be considered Virden’Äôs signature hole. From the back
tee this par three measures 185 yards. Water is in play off the tee as well as to the side of
the green. The green is guarded by a pot bunker in front and a large bunker to the side. The
8th hole is a 465 yard par five with water running the length of the fairway and then cutting
directly in front of the green. The 9th is a strong finishing hole requiring a drive to carry
the creek along with three fairway bunkers. Your second shot will come from the vicinity of an
abandoned oilwell, which provides for an interesting site and an explanation for the club’Äôs
name. Virden Well View Golf Club provides a challenge for all level of golfers. Please come
and give it a try.
