New Denver
Slocan Lake Golf Club
Often considered the Jewel of the Kootenays, the Slocan Lake Golf Club is nestled
amidst the pristine waters of the Slocan Lake. The Selkirk Mountain range provides a picture
perfect backdrop for those who wish to relax on the deck of the clubhouse and take in the
scenery. The course is located 1km north of New Denver on Hwy 6. Within 1 hours drive of six
other golf courses, providing an opportunity for a golf tour holiday. Slocan Lake Golf Club is
a public 9 hole course of modest length, 2682 yards. The challenge lies in the narrow fairways
which are framed by enormous evergreens. It is exceptionally well groomed and is suitable for
golfers of all abilities, but does demand precise shots. The course is an enjoyable walk over
lush, level fairways. A round takes approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes. You have two choices
when teeing off #1, drive the green (283 yards), or lay up to avoid two ponds below. Bunkers
come into play on holes 2, 4 and 9. All three bunkers are just off the greens, so keep that
sand wedge in your bag just in case. OB markers are located on the perimeter of the course, so
a straight drive is imperative. The Golf Club was established in 1927 and was officially
formed as a 9 hole golf course in 1933. In 1951 the society known now as the ’ÄúSlocan Lake Golf
Club’Äù was formed. The area is rich in history and has many local attractions including
museums, heritage homes and lost mines. Vintage photographs and golf paraphernalia, such as
antique wooden shaft clubs, are on display in the clubhouse. Slocan Lake Golf Club prides
itself on the friendly environment, natural beauty and a great game. Also tee times are not
required. Enjoy!
