Dawson Creek Golf & Country Club
Found at mile 1 1/2 of the Alaska Highway, Dawson Creek Golf & Country Club
has been at its current location since 1942. Before then it occupied a site now the home of
Dawson Creek’Äôs downtown. A 9 hole course for most of its existence, in 1990 the course
expanded to an 18 hole course of 6260 yards. Both its front and back 9s are well treed with
level, narrow fairways which are always in excellent condition. Tight playing throughout,
accuracy is made even more important thanks to water in play on 14 holes. Two of Dawson
Creek’Äôs better holes are its wildly variable par three 2nd, and its option laden 18th.
Depending on wind conditions the 144 yard 2nd can require any one of four different clubs to
reach the hole’Äôs large green. Guarded by water and a grass mound to the front, plus an
out-of-bounds to the rear, correct distance off the tee is critical to attain par. Dawson
Creek’Äôs 18th is a 504 yard par five that tantalizes the big hitters with a green that’Äôs
reachable in two, but with substantial penalties for those who fail in the attempt. If this
feat is to be ac¬‚com¬‚plished, two water hazards must be carried with a powerful second
drive.
