Chilliwack
Cheam Golf Centre
Tucked inside the twists and turns of a winding stream in a picturesque corner of
Chilliwack, golfers will find this a surprisingly difficult par 56 golf course. With only two
par fours Cheam doesn’Äôt rate executive status, but with several of its par threes at 150+
yards, the course is not all high iron play either. Extremely well trapped for a short course,
sand is in play on just about every hole here, including some very large fairway bunkers on
the 7th and the 12th. Another distinctive feature of Cheam is the amount of water it has in
play, provided mostly by a serpentine lake in the centre of the course. The aforementioned
stream must also be factored into play on the many holes that border it. Even if the stream is
screened much of the time by a line of trees, its mere proximity to the course renders it an
effective out-of-bounds area. Perhaps the best water hole on the course is the 17th where the
approach to the green must skirt a large water hazard. The green on this, Cheam’Äôs second
handicap hole, is small with a pronounced slope. The course also has a very good 36 stall
driving rage, which is both covered and lit for practice in all conditions. Cheam Golf Centre
is an extraordinary golf experience.
